To determine which visa category might be appropriate, please follow these steps:
1. Determine the purpose, scope, and duration of the position. A few key questions to consider include:

• What is the expected duration of the position?
• Is the purpose of the position for research, teaching, or other employment?
• What is the source of funding for the position? Is it funded by UCI or by a foreign country government?

2. Refer to the International Center Most Common Non-Immigrant Visa Classifications at UCI for an overview of visa categories available at UCI.
3. Review specific visa category information on the IC web site to determine the appropriateness of the visa category being requested.
4. Follow the appropriate link below to initiate the visa process with the IC.
5. Contact the appropriate IC staff member for further clarification or to discuss specific individual cases.
