Apply for a Student Visa

You must schedule a visa appointment to apply for an  F-1 or J-1 visa. You must have your I-20 Form or DS-2019 form before you schedule your appointment.

Contact the Nearest U.S. Consulate to Schedule a Visa Appointment

A list of consulates is available at: http://www.usembassy.gov/.

Gather Documents

Review the International Student h=Handbook you received with your visa document for additional information and follow the specific requirements provided to you by the the U.S. Consulate where you will have your interview. We recommend that you read the Frequently Asked Questions [FAQ] about Student Visas at: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en.html.

Be Prepared for Your Interview

This will be short conversation and a review of your documents. You must be able to explain why you want to study in the U.S. and why this is important for your future career. Don't get nervous, this is a part of the process.

Make Travel Arrangements

After you receive your visa, make arrangements to travel to the U.S. You will be able to enter the U.S. as early as 30 days before the start date of your program. If you are student with a SEVIS transfer and returned home to visit during the summer you may enter the U.S. as long as you have a UCI visa document and valid travel documents.
